Meet HxW: Seventeen's Newest Subunit

SEVENTEEN, the 13-member powerhouse known for their unmatched synchronization and self-produced artistry, has once again surprised fans with something fresh and exciting: a brand-new subunit called HxW. While Carats are no strangers to the group's creative subunits—Vocal Team, Performance Team, Hip-Hop Team, and even BSS (BooSeokSoon)—this new formation introduces an entirely different flavor, and fans are already buzzing with excitement.

Who is HxW?

The name HxW has stirred curiosity across the fandom. While Pledis hasn’t released an official explanation, fans have come up with a few popular theories. One of the most widely accepted ideas is that HxW stands for “Hoshi by Woozi”, highlighting the fusion of Hoshi’s performance artistry with Woozi’s production genius.

Whatever the true meaning, one thing is certain: HxW is a unit that represents synergy, evolution, and a creative spark that feels both surprising and inevitable.

The Members

HxW performance

HxW is made up of two incredibly versatile SVT members: Hoshi and Woozi.

  • HoshiSEVENTEEN’s Performance Team leader, known for his sharp choreography, stage charisma, and unexpected humor. He brings an explosive energy and creativity to everything he touches.

  • Woozi – The group’s Vocal Team leader and main producer, with a track record of writing and producing many of SEVENTEEN’s hits. He’s known for his deep emotional expression, layered vocals, and masterful songwriting.

Together, they form a duo that balances power and emotion—intensity and intimacy. Their chemistry, long evident in live stages and behind-the-scenes moments, now takes center stage in HxW.

The Debut Project: BEAM

HxW made their official debut with the release of their single album BEAM on March 10, 2025. The project features two tracks—“Stupid Idiot” and “96”—each showcasing the distinct yet harmonious blend of Hoshi’s performance power and Woozi’s production expertise.

  • “Stupid Idiot” is a bold, high-energy track with dynamic instrumentation and sharp choreography, capturing HxW’s playful confidence and charisma.

  • “96” offers a more emotional and nostalgic tone, reflecting on their friendship and journey as same-age members born in 1996.

The name BEAM symbolizes both the light they aim to shine together and the intensity of their creative connection. The release was accompanied by a vibrant concept that fused cyberpunk visuals with polished performance elements, setting HxW apart as not just a subunit, but a statement of artistry and evolution within SEVENTEEN.

With BEAM, Hoshi and Woozi delivered a debut that was both personal and explosive—making it clear that HxW is here to push boundaries.
